Inspired by Nina Simone's powerful song "Four Women" (1966), which depicts the story of four African American women stereotypes in society. This series serves as a deterrent against negative stereotypes pitted against African-American women by illustrating them in a more delicate perspective.
To create this series, I used Adobe Illustrator. The four muses provided a photo in which I converted into a monochromatic illustration using tints and shades in order to create highlights and shadows. Each flower is symbolic to each of the muse’s personality. I decided to use spring colors to represent a moment of blossoming and growth.
